Angolan youth hold a preparatory assembly for WYD Lisbon 2023.
With eyes fixed on World Youth Day – Lisbon 2023, Angolan Catholic youth held a plenary assembly this week in the Diocese of Benguela under the banner “For a Synodal Church, Communion, Participation and Mission”.
Anastacio Sasembele – Luanda, Angola.
For four days, young Catholics analyzed the challenges of youth ministry. They reflected on the Synod, the Pastoral Letter on Elections published recently by the Bishops of the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé (CEAST).
The head of the National Youth Ministry Secretariat of CEAST, Vilma Gaspar Neto, positively assessed the plenary assembly. She was happy with the results of the meeting.
“We sense a desire among young people to do more and better. They all want to develop their personal skills. It was touching to know that they also want to develop youth ministry in their respective dioceses,” she added.
World Angolan Youth Day 2022
Regarding the pastoral letter of the bishops of CEAST, Gaspar Neto said that young Angolans must participate in the next national electoral process. She underlined the importance of the Bishops’ document, which gives clear guidelines to lay Catholics on maintaining democracy in Angola.
The young people then discussed how best to participate in World Youth Day – Lisbon 2023. It was agreed that this international event would be preceded by an Angolan World Youth Day now scheduled for November 2022. The event will take place in the diocese of Benguela.
Vilma Gaspar Neto appealed to young Angolan Catholics to participate in the next big events.
