Antonio “Tony” Gomes passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on November 10, 2021, at the age of 83. Antonio was born on January 12, 1938 in Pedro Miguel, Faial, Azores to Antonio Gomes and Maria da Gloria. He is predeceased by his father, mother, daughter Dianne Gomes and brother Jose Gomes. Antonio is survived by his wife of 26 years, Eleonora Gomes; brother Humberto (San Leandro) and married to Alice; Sister Maria da Gloria (Faial); son Anthony Gomes (Modesto, CA) married to Trina Gomes; his son Jeffery Gomes (Los Angeles, CA) and his fiancee Lily; daughter-in-law Mary Goulart (Union City); niece / daughter Ana Fagundes (San Leandro); 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, a few godchildren in California and Faial as well as several nieces and nephews here in California, Idaho and Faial. Antonio immigrated to California in 1958 working a dairy in Hanford, before moving to Union City in 1971. Antonio worked as a butcher for Lucky Stores for 28 years, known for making the best Cornish tri-tip and game hens. . He was former president of SDES Alvarado Hall in Union City. He enjoyed working in his garden, camping with his family, playing a game of sueca (card game) and watching Benfica, his Portuguese football team. Antonio was a loving, caring, kind and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. We will always cherish the memories we made with him and find solace in knowing that we will see him again one day.
