CAN 2022 round of 16: matches, schedule, schedules, television for the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations

With the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations group stage on the books, only 16 of the original 24 teams remain standing, with eight teams heading home.

All of the first and second from the group stage qualified for the round of 16, while the top four third teams also managed to complete the 16-team field.

Surprisingly, African power Ghana and defending champion Algeria were both eliminated in the group stage. On another side, Green cap qualified for the knockout stage for only the second time in the country’s history, following their performance in 2013 when they reached the quarter-finals.

Tiny Comoros also evolved in his very first appearance at the AFCON tournament. They were the last team to qualify for third place, with Sierra Leone and Guinea-Bissau absent. Here’s how the third place ranked:

Hosts Cameroon, en route to winning Group A, scored the most group stage goals with seven, while Senegal finished his charge at the top of group B without conceding a single goal. Nigeria finished with the most points, a perfect nine of nine after winning all three games with a +5 goal differential, the best in the tournament so far.
