El Salvador is the last to accept the Kigali amendment

EL SALVADOR: The Central American Republic of El Salvador has registered its acceptance of the ratification of the Kigali Amendment aimed at gradually reducing HFC refrigerants.

El Salvador’s addition brings the number of ratifying countries to 125, including the European Union – 63% of the 197 original countries that adopted the amendment in 2016.

Most non-Article 5 (developed) countries are expected to achieve an 85% reduction in HFCs by 2036. Article 5 countries are divided into two groups and follow a slower timeline starting with a freeze in 2024 or 2028. A5 countries are in 2045 or 2047.
