For Africa Month, Apple Music celebrates the spirit of Umoja.
With the eyes and ears of the world now on Africa, Apple Music is celebrating Africa Month in May with a Umoja-themed campaign; a message of unity and solidarity. The campaign also shines a light on the new generation of African artists who are changing the narrative of the music industry locally and abroad.
The campaign includes an exclusive Umoja Africa Month playlist that features some of the best intercontinental collaborations in recent memory, featuring music by Focalistic & Davido, Naira Marley & Busiswa, Gyakie feat. Omah Lay as well as AKA feat. Burna Boy. Also included are 12 exclusive guest playlists from artists such as Omah Lay (Nigeria), Manu Worldstar (DR Congo / SA), Tems (Nigeria) and Amaarae (Ghana), all alumni of the Artist Spotlight Program. emerging Apple Music Africa Rising. Portuguese-speaking Africa represents Nenny (Cape Verde) and Calema (SÃ£o TomÃ© and PrÃncipe), from East Africa Zuchu (Tanzania) and Nviiri The Storyteller (Kenya), for French-speaking Africa, we have Suspect 95 ( CÃ´te d’Ivoire) and Tayc (Cameroon) and finally, representing Southern Africa, we welcome Focalistic (South Africa) and BET award winner, Sha Sha (Zimbabwe). Playlists are made up of songs that make artists proud to be African, or that have changed the landscape of music in Africa.
Africa Month will also be supported on Apple Music Radio. Africa Now Radio with Cuppy will host an Africa Month special âUmojaâ on Sunday May 30 to celebrate the show’s 1st anniversary and pay tribute to some of the continent’s best collaborations. On Apple Music 1’s The Ebro Show, each week, Ebro will interview a guest artist from a different region to talk about his exclusive Africa Month playlist, as well as a weekly motivational mix of prominent DJs from across the continent playing the best of Amapiano Afrobeats and more. Nadeska will also feature their Artist of the Week Africa Rising on The Nadeska each week during the month of May.
