Lin Hiley Hospiscare Fundraiser | Exmouth Journal
At 73, Lin Hiley, retired from Exmouth, is far from taking it easy.
Not satisfied with having hiked the longest zip line in Europe and performing a tandem parachute jump, all in the name of charity, she is now committed to her most daring mission to date … a walk winged!
The sponsored Daredevil Stunt takes place at Dunkeswell Airport on July 26 to raise much-needed funds for Hospiscare.
And Lin appeals for donations to help him find the courage.
The former occupational therapist said she decided to volunteer for the wing walk after her husband Paul was unable to continue her volunteer work with Hospiscare due to the pandemic.
Paul’s first wife, Sue, who was also a friend of Lin’s, was taken into the care of the Exeter-based charity before her death in 1996.
Lin said, “I’m not sure what to expect, but I’m told there will be ‘swoops and dives’!
“I had to get a certificate from my doctor to say I was in good shape and in fairly good health, but other than that it will only be the same day!” “
Lin and Paul are no strangers to adventure. In 2007, they crossed the Atlantic on a 35-foot yacht and spent three years exploring the Caribbean before returning from Antigua via the Azores.
Paul is also a professional musician who has provided backing music to numerous artists including Cliff Richard, performed on BBC Proms and also appears on numerous film scores including Born Free and Ryan’s Daughter.
The percussionist also provided some of the spooky moments on the soundtracks for several Hammer House Of Horror movies.
Lin, who lives in Windsor Square, Exmouth, said she was determined to raise as much money as possible for Hospiscare.
“They are such wonderful people and do an amazing job,” she added.
“My only real worry is that I’m suffering from motion sickness, so I hope that won’t be a problem. When we crossed the Atlantic I had to take prescription motion sickness medication every eight hours for three weeks!
Lin hopes to raise £ 1,000 for Hospiscare. To make a donation, go to
