Maria F. (Furtado) Realejo, from East Providence, dies at 84

Maria F. (Furtado) Realejo, 84, of Russell Avenue, East Providence, RI, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 27, 2021, at the home surrounded by her family.
Born May 1, 1937 in Vila Franca Do Campo, Sao Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Carlos and Rosarinha (Dias) Furtado. She married Manuel Realejo in 1964 and he predeceased her in 2020.
The youngest of fourteen children, Maria was affectionately known as “Mariazinha”. She loved to sing, dance and listen to fado music. She was passionate about gardening and cooking, attended church, and provided advice and wisdom to everyone she met. Outside the home, Maria worked at BA Ballou where she was a machine operator for twenty-five years until her retirement.
Her greatest joy and favorite pastime, however, was her beloved family. She cherished every moment she spent with them. She was the beloved mother of Ricardo Realejo (Julie) from Barrington, RI, and Debra Swanson (Matthew), Luisa Realejo and Cecilia O’Brien (Christopher) all from East Providence, RI. She was predeceased by her son Gerald (“Jerry”) Realejo. She is also survived by a sister, Maria Do Carmo of New Bedford, MA. She was the loving and devoted grandmother of ten grandchildren, Christopher Jr., Emma, Ethan, Lauren, Sophia, Isaac, Ryan, Vanessa, Caroline, Olivia and three great grandchildren.
His funeral will be celebrated on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 7.45 a.m. Rebello funeral and crematorium, 901 Broadway, East Providence, RI, which will be followed by a Christian funeral mass at 9:00 am in Saint Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street.
Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Wampanoag Trail Cemetery, Riverside, RI.
