Teenager assaulted by group of men at Bigg Market bar
A teenager was injured in the head when he was assaulted by a gang of men in a bar in the city.
Today, police are still pursuing a group of five to eight men suspected of being involved in the incident, which took place at The Points Irish bar in Newcastle’s Bigg Market.
The Chronicle understands that the 19-year-old victim was at the bar with friends when he was assaulted early Thursday.
Police said he was pushed to the ground and kicked.
The teenager suffered a head injury as a result of the attack.
He had to be hospitalized but was not seriously injured.
Police are calling for witnesses as the investigation to locate those responsible continues.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “At 1.25 am on July 29 we received a report that a man had been assaulted at a facility in the Bigg Market in Newcastle.
“It was reported that a group of five to eight men had pushed him to the ground and kicked him, causing a minor head injury.
“The 19-year-old man went to the hospital for treatment and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
“Anyone with information is urged to contact the police. “
