Portugal was voted the best country in the world by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler


According to the Readers’ Choice Awards 2021, Portugal is on the rise and has reason to celebrate across the country. For the 34th time, Traveler, the travel publication of Condé Nast media group, invited readers to voice their choices on how best to travel the world. Over 800,000 people responded to the challenge and the result was Readers’ Choice Award 2021, posted on the publication’s website on October 5. Among the destinations, the ways of traveling and the accommodation, there is a lot to see and know, but when it comes to Portuguese distinctions, one can count on the best country in the world, one of the best hotels in the world. ‘Europe, one of the best big cities in the world and some of the best islands in Europe.

Choosing the best country in the world is not easy, maybe that’s why the list of winners has 20 names, and Portugal is first. Followed by New Zealand and Japan, our country leaves behind potential competitors like Italy (6th), Australia (16th) and Switzerland (17th).

In the category Best Hotels in the World, Hotel São Lourenço do BarrocalIn Alentejo, Portugal and Spain won. Located in the heart of the Alentejo, between the Alqueva dam, Monsaraz and the Spanish border, this project has already won numerous awards. In this category, the city of Tokyo occupies the first place, curiously, followed by Osaka and Kyoto, in second and third places.

Portugal is mentioned again in The class that characterizes the islands. This category is divided into eight lists, according to the region of the world and in terms of Europe, Madeira takes fourth place and the Azores (it is the name of the archipelago that appears in the list) in twelfth place. It should be noted that the first three places are occupied by the islands of Hvar (in Croatia), Mykonos and Zakynthos (both in Greece), respectively in the first, second and third places.)
