Electric fireplaces sold at Lowe’s between 2013 and 2018 are being recalled because the wiring connectors in the fireplace can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

According to an announcement from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, 48,000 homes were sold in Lowe’s stores nationwide and on between January 2013 and April 2018 for approximately $ 700.

The announcement states that there have been “28 reports of overheating, fire or smoke. Several of these incidents reportedly resulted in smoke damage to the surrounding area and, in one case, smoke inhalation.

The details of the fireplace are:

  • The allen + roth brand 62-inch infrared quartz electric fireplace, 5,120 BTU, item number 466656. The fireplace is housed in a cherry wood cabinet and has a thermostat and remote control. An insert inside the cabinet simulates a wood fire and provides heat. A label on the back reads “Febo Flame Electric Fireplace Model Number ZHS-30-A. ”
