The result left Nigeria strong favorites to win their qualifying group.

Nigeria, ranked 30th in the world, and Sao Tome and Principe, the 183rd best team in the world, are in Group A qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations alongside Guinea-Bissau and Sierra Leone.

Sao Tome and Principe lost their opener 5-1 to Guinea-Bissau, while Nigeria started their campaign with a 2-1 win over Sierra Leone.

The top two teams in the group after six rounds of matches will qualify for the final tournament, which will be hosted by Ivory Coast between June 23 and July 23 next summer.
