Sao Tome vs Nigeria (LIVE UPDATE): Eagles shoot for away win

The Nigeria national team will look to consolidate their victory in the opening day of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when they face São Tomé and Príncipe on Monday.

São Tomé were beaten 5-1 by Guinea Bissau in their first group game and will be hoping to regain their pride against Group A favorites Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Monday afternoon.

Coach Jose Peseiro can’t wait to see his side fire up, which is why the Eagles are aiming for not just a win, but a great win that would see them topple Guinea-Bissau.

Nigeria hope to win against São Tomé and Príncipe while hoping that Guinea Bissau will lose points against Sierra Leone in the second meeting of the day.

Such a scenario would see Nigeria take the lead in the group.

Although the Eagles are depleted by injuries to Willam Troost-Ekong and Innocent Bonke, team officials say there is no cause for alarm in Agadir, Morocco, where the match is being played.

Monday’s game, which kicks off at 2pm, is the first-ever game between Sao Tome and Principe and Nigeria.
