As things get freezing in November, you can’t be faulted for looking for some sun.

Catching golden rays on a white sand beach somewhere far, far away? It sounds like music to our ears.

An action-packed adventure route, complemented by bright sunshine would also be a dream come true.

With Travel now more open than it has been for some time, it is not entirely impossible to think that a winter getaway in the November sun could be considered.

So where are the hottest, most weather-friendly destinations for this cold month?

Let’s take a look at a few options around the world.

Where is it hot in November?

Mauritius

Temperature: 29 ° C
Hours of sunshine: Eight
Flight time: 12 hours, 55 minutes

In the Indian Ocean you will find the East African country of Mauritius – up there with the Seychelles and the Maldives as one of the world’s most famous and beautiful island destinations.

Sparkling beaches, reefs for snorkelling, and oceans for swimming make Mauritius a great option for those who prefer to sunbathe all day. Evenings are hot at 20 ° C, so you won’t need to wrap yourself too much to enjoy the night.

For the active traveler, Mauritius also has a lot to offer. Here you can do just about any water sport in the sun, hike rainforests, climb mountains, and experience wildlife.

It can get expensive, but here’s how to see Mauritius without breaking the bank.

Madeira

Temperature: 21 ° C
Hours of sunshine: 10 hours
Flight time: Three hours 50 minutes

An autonomous region of Portugal, you will find Madeira is significantly warmer in November than most countries in Europe, as it is located just off the northern coast of Africa.

The weather is not scorching – a nice average temperature of 21 ° C, becoming cooler at night around 13 ° C. But for the shorter flight time and the number of options for your trip, you can’t really go wrong.

Funchal, the capital, is an original city, while the north of the island is the place to go for wild adventures full of nature. Wherever you go, expect to see the coast and drink lots of wine (there are lots of wineries).

South Africa

Temperature: 23 ° C ° C
Sunshine hours: 12 hours
Flight time:

November is generally a good time to visit South Africa.

It’s the very start of summer, with (mostly) clear weather, quiet beaches, and fewer tourists all clamoring for a safari before peak season begins.

Your options for where to go in South Africa are vast. There is Cape Town, which has good weather in November, and then the large national parks for safaris: the Kruger National Park is perhaps the best known.

You can think outside the box to the North Cape or the eastern region of KwaZulu-Natal, which is also a great destination for wildlife lovers.

Here you will also find the city of Durban, known for its Golden Mile Beach.

Cyprus

Temperature: 22ºC
Hours of sunshine: 10 hours
Flight time: Four hours 30 minutes

Usually a scorching summer destination for us Brits (even hitting 40 ° C at times), Cyprus is a great choice for winter sun with minimal flight time.

Temperatures can reach around 22 ° C on average, or even a little higher if you’re lucky.

Very popular Paphos will also be hot in November, so you can spend the whole day lounging on the lounge chair or by the beautiful beaches – before a slightly cooler evening begins.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Temperature: 25ºC
Flight time: 17 hours

Sunny South America couldn’t be further from cold and humid England – and Argentina now reopens to vaccinated travelers who meet their long entry requirements.

You will however have to pay for it, with a connecting flight lasting a minimum of 17 hours, unless you can take the only direct flight between the UK and Buenos Aires from London Heathrow.

Hope it will be worth it. The bustling capital is full of interesting neighborhoods, museums of art and remarkable architecture, which are so much better appreciated in good weather. Of course, this could also be your gateway to a much longer, longer journey.

Walled City of Valletta Malta

Malta

Temperature: 21ºC
Hours of sunshine: 10 hours
Flight time: Three hours, 10 minutes

The easiest flight time on our list belongs to the Mediterranean jewel Malta.

At this time of year the sea is still quite warm, so hit this beach as soon as possible – think of the coastal towns of Sliema and St Julian’s for that resort feel.

Do not jump on the other islands of Malta: Gozo and little Cosimo. And if you can, spend a few days in the beautiful capital, Valletta, which has been a filming location for everything from Game Of Thrones to the new Jurassic World.

Temperature: 28ºC
Hours of sunshine: Eight hours
Flight time: Six o’clock

Cape Verde is a small archipelago country in Africa – and is the perfect winter sun destination. With a gorgeous high average temperature, you’ll feel like you’re in the height of summer in the UK.

The resort town of Boa Vista is popular, while the offshore island of Sal is known for its history in the salt trade, kitesurfing opportunities, and home to many sea turtles.

Meanwhile, the capital, Praia, sits on the larger island, Santiago. It is home to two very well-known beaches: Praínha and Quebra Canela – but it’s not just sea and sand.

Expect to see bustling towns, mountains, and the UNESCO-listed ancient capital, Cidade Velha (the oldest part of Santiago Island) – on your trip, too.

Tenerife

Temperature: 21 ° C
Hours of sunshine: Seven hours
Flight time: Four hours 30 minutes

The Canary Islands are popular as a winter sun destination – so the inclusion of Tenerife on this list is no surprise.

Home to a myriad of yellow sand beaches (like La Tejita, great for windsurfing), Thailand-inspired Siam Water Park, Spain’s highest peak (Mount Teide), and plenty of hikes in the national park from Teide, you will certainly not get bored on a trip to Tenerife.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the main town on the island, and here you’ll find the Mercado de Nuestra Senora de Africa, a traditional local food market dating back to the 1940s.

And for November 2022 (and beyond) …

If 2021 still seems a little uncertain to you, here are some great destinations you can consider for next year.

It’s time to save money!

Laos

Temperature: 25 ° C
Hours of sunshine: Six
Flight time: 11:00

This Southeast Asian country has so much to offer – and is particularly sunny and rain-free towards the end of the year.

Sadly, travel restrictions mean few Britons can get visas and a 14-day quarantine is still in place – so maybe one for 2022 or beyond.

Opt for the capital Vientiane, or the popular city of Luang Prabang. Expect temples to explore, bridges, markets, architecture, great food, and views along the famous Mekong River.

However, Laos is landlocked – so no beaches here. If you are looking for beaches and islands, you might want to consider switching to (or combining your trip with) neighboring countries Vietnam and Cambodia – also good weather conditions for November.

More sun destinations in winter – and when to visit them

You don’t want November 2021 and you can’t stand waiting until November 2022?

Instead, consider a winter vacation in the sun later this year, or early 2022. You could fly out in January or enjoy Abu Dhabi’s sunny weather in February.

Fancy Christmas abroad? here is where it is hot in December.

To kick off the New Years Eve in St. Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, or Thailand, check out the (literally) hottest destinations in January.

And finally, here’s where to find the sun in February on a romantic Valentine’s Day excursion.

Know it before you go

As the journey has recently opened and its seems as Covid travel restrictions are a thing of the past – keep in mind that things can change at any time.

All of the destinations on this list are visitable at the time of writing – but you should be aware that countries may be added to a “red list” or “banned list” in the short term. If a country turns red when you are already there, you will be subject to new quarantine rules.

Individual countries could also change whether or not they are willing to allow Britons in – so it’s worth keeping in mind as well. It’s wise to keep a close eye on the country’s individual entry requirements – and make sure you have top-notch travel insurance for your trip.
