Will Turkey go on the orange list?
Turkey was initially placed on the red list, due to its high number of Covid cases.
But, since then, its daily new cases have dropped – and the UK is now reporting around six times as many cases every day.
It is still not entirely clear whether Turkey will be included in the government’s Amber List after the next travel review on July 19.
But, it certainly looks positive that he’s been outclassed from the Red List.
A handful of countries will be awarded coveted green status in a new traffic light system based on jab deployment and Covid rates – meaning Britons can visit with just two tests on their return and don’t have to no need to isolate yourself.
If it is on the amber list, that means you will need:
- A negative test taken before returning to the UK
- Mandatory ten-day home quarantine
- Two Covid tests, carried out on the second and eighth day
Turkey has the third highest number of Covid-19 cases in Europe since the start of the pandemic.
However, while the UK has recorded 130,000 Covid-related deaths, Turkey has only reported 50,000.
In the past 24 hours, Turkey has reported fewer than 5,000 new cases of Covid, compared to 27,100 in the UK.
What are the travel restrictions for Turkey?
Direct flights between the UK and Turkey are currently operating, but the Foreign Office is advising against all but essential travel within the country due to the risks of Covid.
All passengers six years of age and older must present a negative PCR test performed within 72 hours of departure.
There is currently no obligation to self-isolate once in Turkey.
All arrivals to Turkey except Turkish citizens or holders of a residence permit must complete an online form within 72 hours of travel.
Face masks should be worn at airports and on planes to and from Turkey.
Which countries are currently on the orange list?
Currently, all arrivals from amber countries – which cover most of Europe – must self-isolate for 10 days and pass two PCR tests after arrival, regardless of their vaccination status.
